‘My appointment as Chief of Staff takes effect from June 14’ – Femi Gbajabiamila

Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has said his appointment as Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu takes effect from June 14, 2023.

Gbajabiamila’s revealed this in a statement on his official Facebook page on Friday, June 2, 2023, a few hours after the announcement of his appointment.

“Having spent the last 20 years in the Nigerian Parliament, and after winning my 6th term election into the National Assembly, I shall work with Mr President in discharging the enormous task ahead of him for the peace and progress of the federal republic of Nigeria,” his statement read. “I shall give my best when I take office on June 14, 2023, as reflected in Mr. President’s official letter.”

Tinubu, in a statement by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director, Information, State House, Abuja, on Friday, announced the appointment of Gbajabiamila as CoS, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, a former Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, as Deputy Chief of Staff, and former Governor of Benue State and immediate past Minister of Special Duties, George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

Gbajabiamila’s appointment had raised concerns among Nigerians who have been wondering if he would resign as Speaker of the House with just a few days left to the expiration of his term in office.

With the clarification of the details of his appointment, it is now clear that he will finish his term in office as Speaker of the 9th Assembly and thereafter resign as a member of the Green Chamber when the new lawmakers are inaugurated in the second week of June.
