MTN Upskills Over 800 Young Entrepreneurs With ICT And Business Training

With all hands on deck working to accelerate financial inclusion and youth development in the country, committed to playing its part, MTN Nigeria has trained over 800 young entrepreneurs across Abia, Akwa Ibom, Kaduna, Katsina and Borno States in ICT and business skills.

The one-month programme commenced on Monday, November 9, 2020, ending Friday, December 11, 2020. Speaking at the closing ceremony, Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, who was ably represented by the Director, Enterprise Development and Promotion Department of the Ministry, Mr. I. O. Momoh said,

“The MTN ICT and Business Skills Training is a laudable project and it is an initiative that is particularly important to the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development because it is not only youth-focused but it is designed to promote skill development, employability, as well as entrepreneurship which is an important alternative pathway to employment.”

Through the MTN ICT and Business Skills training programme, Nigerians were exposed to the latest development and technological innovations to aid individual and entrepreneurial development. The training took a course and instructor-led approach in partnership with MTN ecosystem partners – Google, Oracle and Cisco.

“We applaud the participants of the programme. These young Nigerian entrepreneurs showed up and attended the sessions with great expectations and zeal. We remain committed to helping empower and develop young start-ups with the digital skills required to achieve the success they truly deserve.” Nonny Ugboma, Executive Secretary, MTN Foundation said.

Over 2,700 Nigerians in Kano, Nasarawa, Oyo, Imo, Rivers, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Kaduna, Katsina and Borno States have been trained since the programme’s inception in 2018. The Foundation has invested over 21 billion Naira in projects across the 36 states and FCT since its commission in 2005.
