Mother kills newborn son, cuts him in half with broken tile
The Romanian woman said she discovered the baby looked nothing like her husband, but resembled the man she had been having an affair with.
The mother-of-two said that as soon as she noticed the similarity with her lover, she decided to kill the child, Dailymail reports.
Elena Smocot, 27, then murdered the newborn in front of her four-year-old son and her nephew, 7, in her home in Barlad, Vaslui County, east Romania.
She told police she grabbed the child by the legs and swung it around, bashing his head against the furniture several times until it stopped screaming.
Then, she went outside, put the baby on the ground and stamped on him repeatedly.
By the time police arrived after the two other children had raised the alarm with neighbours, Smocot had cut the baby into half with a broken roof tile.
She then pulled out the baby’s intestines, a court heard.
According to Dailymail, during the court case judges heard evidence that the woman might have been suffering from depression because in both 2010 and 2012 she was suffering from postnatal depression.
However, the court ruled that while Smocot may have been suffering from postnatal depression, she was aware of her actions.
The judge sentenced her to 18 years in prison and took away her parental rights for her other two children..
