Mob burn alleged motorcycle thief to death in Akwa Ibom
A man was burnt to death, this morning, by an angry mob in Urua Ekpa Junction in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.
The mob had reportedly pursued the suspect after he allegedly made away with the bike which was packed in front of a fuel station, few kilometers from AKBC Transmitting Station, Ntak Inyang.
An elderly man who claimed ownership of the motorcycle, reportedly said he was shocked as he watched the deceased unlock his bike with the aid of a master key. He reportedly alerted people in the area, and the suspect was given a hot chase.
He wasn’t spared by the crowd, as they set him ablaze before police operatives could arrive the scene.
Witnesses say the suspect was a serial robber.
Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Odiko MacDon, confirmed the incident, and described jungle justice as unfortunate and encouraged people to always report criminal matters to the police instead of taking the law in their hands.
