Peter Kibisu (right) said he killed young lawyer and family friend Elizabeth Nnyanzi.

Peter Kibisu, 23, pleaded guilty to the murder of city lawyer Elizabeth Nnyanzi late in 2015.

He had been living with the lawyer’s family for months before he attacked and strangled her in her own bedroom in Harrow. He was a trusted family friend.

The Nnyanzis, tearful and sad, were at the Old Bailey, where Kibisu was sentenced to a minimum jail term of 27 years.

While sentencing the convict, Common Serjeant of London Richard Marks QC said:

“What you did was truly shocking.

“Your acts were those of unspeakable wickedness and it’s frankly hard to consider how you could have done that to anybody still less a young woman like her who was to all intents and purposes family.

“Elizabeth met her death in her own home and in circumstances involving horrendous betrayal of trust and hospitality extended to you by her family.”

The judge also described the victim, Ms Nnyanzi, as “an outstanding young woman of immense talent and ability with a life of huge potential ahead of her”..
