Many feared dead in community crisis in Cross River
Several lives have reportedly been lost in a conflict that broke out days ago in a community in Biase, Cross River State. The reason for the conflict is not known.
President Buhari days ago commended state governor Ben Ayade on a swift intervention in the crisis.
“I commend the Cross River State Government and the State Police Command for acting swiftly to prevent the violence in Biase Local Government Area from escalating,” Buhari said on his Twitter.
Ayade was said to have mobilised security agencies to calm the situation and restore peace in the community.
But new reports say the crisis is far from over.
Many houses and properties have reportedly been destroyed and people are being slaughtered like ram. Headless bodies and ripped intestines are reportedly littering the roads in the community.
Hundreds of victims in the conflict have also reportedly fled the community to seek refugee in neighbouring communities in Abia and Ebonyi States.
Photos from the community affected by the crisis are now circulating on social media. We can’t not immediately verify the authenticity of the images.
Several lives have already been lost to community conflicts across the country in 2018.
