Many feared dead as polytechnic students, drivers clash in Niger

Many students and a lecturer of the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State are feared dead following a communal clash between some students and commercial bus drivers on Saturday.

The clash was said to have arisen as a result of some students’ insistence that a driver of a bus they boarded from Minna take them straight to the polytechnic, which he declined. He reportedly drove the students to the terminal instead, and they allegedly pounced on him.

Some locals were said to have raced to the driver’s defence.

The Institution’s spokesperson Husseini Enagi, said the students returned to campus and mobilised others, before going back to town to fight.
