Man stabs co-tenant to death for stopping him from beating wife
One trader, Manga Bameye has killed a man, Charles Duse, for interfering in a fight with his wife.
Duse attempted to prevent Bameye from raining blows on his wife, when the latter grabbed a broken bottle and stabbed the deceased.
Bameye was arraigned in court for murder.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Adetutu Sanusi, said Bameye committed the offence on Sunday, April 8 at his residence in the Command area of Meiran, Lagos.
Sanusi said Bameye’s wife, who was being assaulted by him, had run to the complainant to seek refuge from her husband’s brutality.
“The complainant rescued her and prevented the accused from further beating her, but the accused transferred his aggression to him and stabbed him in the face.
“The case was reported to the Police and the accused was immediately arrested,” she told an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Bameye pleaded guilty to the charge of causing bodily harm to his co-tenant, and also pleaded for forgiveness and leniency.
The magistrate ordered that Bameye be kept behind bars pending sentencing and fixed April 18 for sentence.
