Man shoots fellow hunter dead after “mistaking him for a bush pig”

An Ekiti hunter has allegedly killed a colleague whom he mistook for a pig, the police says.

The hunter reportedly shot his 30-year-old colleague during a hunting trip, Wednesday. The colleague died on the spot, reports say.

“On 12th August, 2015 at about 2:30pm, we received a report from a group of hunters that at about 1:00pm of same date while on hunting expedition, they were pursuing bush pigs and in the process one of them allegedly shot another one aged 30 who died on the spot,” the police said in a statement.

“We visited the scene, recovered the corpse and deposited it at General Hospital mortuary Ijan Ekiti for autopsy.

“One locally-made barrel gun recovered from the suspect as exhibit. State CIID Ado-Ekiti is investigating.”

Police will not say whether the hunter was arrested.

State police spokesperson Adeyemi Albert Ademola did not pick the calls we put through to his lines, Saturday.
