Man poses as woman on Facebook, scams “lover” of N1.5m

Justice Muhammad Yahaya of Kano State High Court, on Monday, February 19, 2018 convicted and sentenced one Abubakar Isiaku A.K.A Hajia Fatima to one year imprisonment.

Isiaku was sentenced on a one count charge for the offence of obtaining by false pretence brought against him by the Kaduna Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The convict’s sojourn to prison began sometimes ago after he decided to disguise as a woman and extort money from unsuspecting members of the public via Facebook.

He made the complainant believe he is woman which made them become very close friends. 

Ishaku started extorting money from his victim to the tune of about N1.5 million (One Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira) only. 

In the course of prosecution, the convict changed his plea to guilty from not guilty after he was arriagned on 18th December, 2017. 

The Judge also ordered the convict, Abubakar to pay the sum of N1,500,000 to the nominal complainant as restitution.
