Man lived with scissors in stomach for 18 years following surgery error
Ma Van Nhat, 54 , has undergone an abdominal surgery to remove a pair of scissors left there in a surgery 18 years ago.
The Vietnamese had the scissors forgotten in his body when in 1988 he underwent a surgery after a car accident, until recently when he began experiencing stomach aches.
The 15-centimetre scissors was found in an ultrasound scan near his colon.
AFP reported that Nhat had a removal surgery that lasted three hours. He is recovering quite well.
Nhat had spent nearly two decades “eating, drinking and having a pretty normal life”, according to Suc Khoe va Doi Song news site, the official mouthpiece of Vietnam’s health ministry.
Officials said they were searching for the doctors who performed surgery in Bac Kan province in 1998, but have not yet tracked down any culprits.
