Man forges former Finance Minister Okonjo-Iweala’s signature to secure employment

Raymond Azuka, an impersonator of former Finance minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has been sentenced to serve eight years in prison.

Azuka had, sometime between May 2013 and August 2014, forged a reference letter he claimed to have been signed by Okonjo-Iweala, in order to gain employment at the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting, NSPM as Security Assistant 1A.

In the forged letter, Okonjo-Iweala had purportedly recommended him as a worthy officer fit for employment.

He was arraigned before the court following his arrest and was found guilty of two counts out of six charges based on forgery by a Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court, Nyanya, on last November.

Justice Idris ruled that the prosecution proved the counts beyond every reasonable doubt and sentenced Azuka to four years on each of the counts without an option of fine.

The sentences are to run concurrently.
