LP is almost in its dying days – Valentine Ozigbo

Valentine Ozigbo, a governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has declared that the Labour Party (LP) is on the brink of collapse, saying the party is no longer what it appears to be.

In a candid interview on Arise TV on Tuesday, Ozigbo said LP has lost its political relevance, claiming even its elected officials are plotting their exit.

“Labour Party is not exactly what people think they see. I have made my case. Unfortunately, LP is almost in its dying days, and over time, people are going to see it,” Ozigbo said.

“There is hardly any elected member of the party whom I have spoken to who intends to run for re-election under the same platform.”

Ozigbo recently made headlines when he defected from the Labour Party to the APC in February, citing a desire to drive meaningful change. However, his ambition faced an early hurdle when he lost the APC governorship ticket in April to Nicholas Ukachukwu, who garnered 1,455 votes in the party’s primaries. In response, Ozigbo has taken legal action, challenging the outcome of the election in court.

Despite the setback, the former PDP candidate in the 2021 Anambra governorship election insists his decision to join the APC was strategic.

“I didn’t join APC to justify its actions,” he said. “I’m here as a catalyst for change.”

Ozigbo also weighed in on Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s political alignment, accusing him of playing a double game between APGA and APC.

“I don’t want the type of deal where Soludo is APGA in the afternoon and APC at night. You create confusion. You are not strengthening the party,” he said.

He further suggested that President Bola Tinubu may be quietly supporting Soludo’s re-election due to the governor’s opposition to Peter Obi, the LP’s 2023 presidential candidate.

“If Soludo wants to be APGA, be APGA. Be proud of your APGA. If you want to be APC, then be APC. But don’t straddle both sides,” Ozigbo added.
