Lightning strike kills 5 in Cross River
At least five people were struck dead by lightning in Cross River State on Tuesday.
The incident occurred during a heavy downpour at the popular Utanga market in Utanga community, Obanliku LGA of Cross River State.
Report say the victims included two females and three males, while a tree close to the stall where the tragedy occurred was also affected.
A lightning strike or lightning bolt is an electric discharge between the atmosphere and an Earth-bound object which, if touches a person, causes enormous quantities of energy to pass through the body very quickly, resulting in internal burns, organ damage, explosions of flesh and bone, and nervous system damage.
Depending on the flash strength and access to medical services, lightning strike may be instantaneously fatal or cause permanent injury and impairment.
