Leopard strolls into Indian school, injures nine persons
Several staff reportedly took to their heels when a leopard entered the Vibgyor School at Kundalahalli near Whitefield Bengaluru in India, Sunday morning.
Reports say CCTV cameras of the school captured the animal roaming inside the school at around 4:00am.
As forest department officials tried to capture the large cat, it ran through the premises, jumping at people standing in its way.
Wildlife expert and conservationist Sanjay Gubbi came to the spot to help officials and was also caught unawares.
As the leopard rushed towards him, Gubbi tried scaling the wall. But the it pulled him down and attacked. Gubbi warded the leopard away using the binocular he had in his hand.
It took the forest department officials and the police almost 14 hours to give the cat a tranquilizer shot. But nine persons had been injured by then.
According to Dailymail, India has a considerable leopard population, according to a recent wildlife census, which estimates it currently stands at 12,000 to 14,000 leopards.
