“Laughback”: Solomon Dalung, others who became comedians in 2016
Goodbye 2016. We will never forget the Nigerian politicians who provided comic reliefs in a year tensed by economic recession.
1. President Muhammadu Buhari
Comedian-In-Chief President Muhamadu Buhari embarrassed Nigerians in Germany by referring to German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, as “President Michelle” of “West Germany”. That was embarrassingly hilarious. Buhari, to his outdated credit, would have been right if we were in 1947.
We’re also aware Buhari triggered rib-cracking #TheOtherRoom memes after insisting his wife “belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room”. Mr President, thank you for leading us to the laughter.
2. Governor Ayodele Fayose
Cheekily sensational Ekiti governor Ayodele Fayose is next. He prides himself as the man of the people with his “stomach infrastructure”. He took to streets of Ado-Ekiti sharing cakes to the residents in celebration of his 56th birthday.
We won’t forget, not in a hurry, Fayose getting high on yuletide spirit way before most Nigerians by rocking the Santa cap and Spiderman mask in tandem. We also remember the time he stormed a bank in an old car, entered the banking hall and emerged with polythene bags containing millions of naira. Than you sir.
3. Governor Adams Oshiomhole
We thank the amiable Edo governor for dancing through the years, and for not letting us down in 2016.
Here’s a clip of the governor grooving to Korede Bello’s “Godwin” at an APC rally in 2016.

4. Atiku Abubakar
One time Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, impressed us with his dabbing skills in rhythm to Desiigner’s “Panda” at American University of Nigeria, Yola. He proved to us that although he just clocked 70, was very young at heart.
Actually, the dabbing bid was an epic fail!
Earlier today, I also learned to do this dance they called dab pic.twitter.com/G7wDLoQ3IJ

Atiku would hope his 2019 parole doesn’t suffer the same fate.
5. Muhammed Gudaji Kazaure
The Jigawa state lawmaker gave the most accurate description of the Nigerian economy in 2016. And it was hilarious.
We’re counting on Buhari’s 2017 Budget proposal to rescue Kazure from this comic loop.
6. Solomon Dalung
Our “wonderful” sports minister baffled Nigerians when he said AWCON-winning Super Falcons were not paid on time because he didn’t know the ladies would triumph. Like seriously?
Dalung also gave us a “spended” moment. When queried on the funds spent for the Rio 2016 Olympics, he declared with so much confidence that “the funds spended were properly spended”. We believe he should have said “expended”. Perhaps we didn’t hear him clearly.
