LASG Unveils Plans To Decongest Traffic On Lekki/Epe Expressway
The Lagos State Government (LASG) has urged motorists plying the Lekki/Epe Expressway to take precautions as they unveil plans to repair the road in partnership with Nigerian construction company Craneburg.
Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Lagos State’s Commissioner for Transport, disclosed this in a statement released on Monday, October 16, 2023.
According to the statement, LASG plans to tackle the high-fill profile along the axis within 3-4 days with plans to reopen all lanes on the road. They’ve also revealed plans to handle accident impacts that cause temporary congestion.
“The Lagos State Government is aware of the hardship motorists are facing, while travelling on Lekki/Epe Expressway and also wishes to state that their concerns are well noted. Hence, it is committed to improving this vital route and ensuring a smoother and safer journey for all,” Osiyemi said.
Alongside plans to repair the expressway are initiatives to deploy more traffic operatives at the project sites to ensure effective traffic control. He said, “We have also increased the numbers of LASTMA Operatives on location and extended their duty time.”
Osiyemi further explains that this engagement exemplifies the commitment of the Lagos State Government and Craneburg to finding solutions to the challenges faced on the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
Recall that on Wednesday, October 11 2023, The Lagos State Government commenced demolition of buildings erected on drainage channels in Lekki Phase II to correct the perennial flooding that has become a threat to residents whenever rain falls in the community. These buildings were removed by the enforcement unit of the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources after its residents were given one week’s notice.
