Landlord, 70, sentenced to 10 months jail term for removing tenants’ roofing sheets, toilets
A 70-year-old landlord, Adekunle Akinsemoyin, has been sentenced to ten months imprisonment on Tuesday for illegally removing the roofing sheet covering the rooms of his tenants; Wasiu Ramon and Fatai Andoyin.
Akinsemoyin and one Musa Kalamu were arrested and subsequently arraigned on July 7, 2015, before Igbosere Magistrates’ Court on three counts of conspiracy, malicious damage, breach of public peace and unlawful demolition.
They had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
On Tuesday, the presiding magistrate, however, found Akinsemoyin guilty of malicious damage and breach of the peace for unlawfully demolishing the toilet of the tenants and sentenced him to ten months imprisonment, with an option of N90,000 fine.
Kalamu, a farmer, was however, discharged and acquitted due to lack of evidence linking him to the crime.
