Lagos: Woman arraigned for “stealing two babies”
A 42-year-old woman, on Monday, appeared before a Surulere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos to answer for allegations of child theft and trafficking.
Rashidat Salisu stole an eight-month-old baby and a one-year-old baby from their homes the court was told.
Prosecuting counsel, Sergeant Anthonia Osayande said the stealings took place on May 16, 2016.
She alleged that the defendant had been in the business of stealing children before being caught.
Salisu however pleaded not guilty.
Presiding Magistrate, Mr Ekpaye Nwachukwu, granted her bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Both sureties must not only provide evidence of tax clearance and ownership of property in Lagos, they must also deposit N100,000 each at the court’s Registry.
Hearing in the case was adjourned till August 16..
