LAGOS: Woman, 22, sells newborn baby to barren couple for N250,000

A 22-year-old woman, Onyinyechi Osoneye has been arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad for selling her day-old-baby after delivery.

Onyinyechi was said to have got rid of the baby, who was born on March 17, 2017, in connivance with her mother.

According to reports, the young mother decided to do away with the baby due to her father’s strict stance against having a child out of wedlock.

The man Onyinyechi pointed out as being responsible for the pregnancy was said to have refuted the claim.

She reportedly sold the baby for the sum of N250,000 to a couple looking for child.

One Mrs Glory Ehinmi reportedly delivered Onyinyechi of the baby boy at the Peninsula Hospital, Ikota.

Oyinyechi disclosed to police that Ehinmi took the baby from her at the point of delivery and gave him to Mrs Prisca Okocha, 45, her sister and the owner of Peculiar Hospital, Orile, who offered Onyinyechi’s mother N250,000.

Okocha later sold the baby to a barren woman, Mrs Ike Nwata, whom she met through one Mrs Regina Anyanwu.

Mrs Nwata reportedly pretended to be pregnant every time she visited her husband, Mr Ike Nwata while their search for a baby lasted. The couple reportedly held a lavish naming ceremony for the baby.

Okocha told the police that she sold the baby for N850,000 but gave the mother N250, 000. She claimed she took care of pregnant Onyinyechi till her point of delivery with her money.

Police are said to be on the lookout to arrest the man who impregnated Onyinyechi, her mother and father.
