A suspected cultist has been arrested for allegedly hacking his girlfriend and her five-year-old son to death before dumping their corpses in a septic tank.

The suspect, identified as Evens, was said to have beaten his girlfriend to death after accusing her of dating a rival cult member in the community.

Evens, an alleged member of Black Axe, allegedly committed the crime on December 30.

The incident occurred at the Igando area of Lagos.

The body of the lady was reportedly discovered when stench of the decomposing bodies started filling the air in the area. The lady and her son had earlier been declared wanted by her parents.

The bodies were discovered in the septic tank on Friday, New Telegraph reports.

A witness said, “Finding the corpses of the lady and her son in the septic tank took everyone by surprise. Last year September, when the septic tank in the compound was spilling, we decided to evacuate it.

“After the clearing, we left the slab without cementing it. Recently, in one of our meetings, some of my co-tenants complained that whenever they flushed toilets, they smell a putrid stench emanating from the septic tank. That was what prompted us to open the slab again. We saw the decomposing bodies.”

Evens, 32, was reportedly arrested through one of his friends who is also a co-tenant.

He had “approached the man and told him that he wanted to sell some of his furniture and relocate,” the CDA Chairman in the area, Mr, Busari Ahmed said.

“He was arrested when he came to the community to negotiate with the friend, who pretended that he wanted to buy some of the items.”

He was said to have confessed to the police that he beat his lover to death because she was dating another man.

Lagos State Police PRO, Dolapo Badmos said the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos State, adding that further investigations are being carried out on the incident.
