Lagos State denies the return of monthly sanitation

The reinstatement of the monthly environmental sanitation and movement restrictions in Lagos has been denied by the Lagos State Government.

Tokunbo Wahab, the state’s commissioner for environment and water resources in the state claims that the rumour was peddled by individuals with mischievous intentions.

In a statement signed by Kunle Adeshina, Director of Public Affairs for the ministry, the commissioner emphasized that there are no plans to enforce monthly sanitation exercises or impose movement restrictions in July or later.

He urged Lagos state residents to ignore the fake reports and assured them that there would be no restrictions on movement on the last Saturday of July.

The Commissioner clarified that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu recently launched a new initiative aimed at increasing community awareness of sanitation.

This initiative involves organizing weekly educational campaigns in different neighbourhoods to encourage residents to take active roles in keeping their environment clean.

The Governor announced this initiative during a sanitation sensitization event held at Campos Playground, Lagos Island, on Sunday. This emphasizes the proactive approach of the government in promoting cleanliness and community involvement in Lagos State.

The Commissioner further encouraged residents to adopt the practice of consistently keeping their surroundings clean and encouraged residents to maintain cleanliness consistently as a personal responsibility rather than only when instructed to do so by the government.
