Lagos: Man to provide two sureties for standing as surety for fleeing suspects
A 42-year-old man who stood as surety for two suspects has landed in serious trouble, NAN reports.
The man, identified as Taiwo Idowu, has been accused of aiding the escape of two of his friends, Sikiru Balogun and Taiwo Taiwo.
Sikiru and Taiwo were facing charges bordering on malicious damage.
Idowu had promised to produce the suspects to the Police Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos on March 29, and other subsequent dates they would be needed at the station but failed to do so.
Idowu was arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court on Friday (today).
The Prosecutor, Insp. Ingobo Emby, said that Idowu made an undertaken to forfeit his N800,000 bail bond which he made while standing as a surety for the two fleeing suspects.
“He failed to produce the two suspects at the police station, thereby aiding their escape,” Emby said.
The prosecutor further said Idowu should show cause, why he should not forfeit the said N800,000 bail bond to the Lagos State Government.
Idowu pleaded not guilty to two counts bordering on perversion of course of justice.
The Magistrate, Mr W. B. Balogun, granted him N1million bail with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until May 3 for mention.
