Lagos Government Lists 176 Estates as Illegal.

The Lagos State Government has declared 176 estate developments illegal and given the concerned parties a 21-day ultimatum to submit layout approvals or face sanctions.

The estates, mostly located in Eti-Osa, Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki, and Epe, were listed by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development for operating without the necessary layout approvals, a violation of planning regulations.

According to Oluwole Sotire, Permanent Secretary of the Office of Physical Planning, the estates were found to have contravened the state’s regulatory requirements.

“The estates are deemed illegal due to failure to obtain layout approvals from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development,” Sotire said.

He further explained that the unapproved developments threaten the state’s long-term urban sustainability.

“The estates compromised the sustainable development agenda of the Lagos State Government,” he added.

The affected developers have been directed to submit all necessary documentation to the ministry for proper processing. The state said this enforcement is part of its routine oversight to guide orderly and planned urban growth.

“This exercise is a routine function of the ministry, adding that it is in line with its mandate to regulate the development of public and private estates in Lagos,” Sotire noted.

Some of the estates listed include Adron Homes in Elerangbe, Almond Gardens in Igbodu, Atlantic Bay Estate in Awoyaya, Cedarwood Boulevard in Eti-Osa, Victory Garden in Ibeju-Lekki, and Dominion City Phase 1 in Epe.

The government’s action underscores its renewed push for urban order amid rapid development in key corridors of the state.
