Lagos Government Disclaims Involvement in Alleged Obi Property Demolition

The Lagos State Government has denied involvement in the demolition of a property said to belong to the younger brother of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, said the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) or any other state agency was not responsible for the action and has now been directed to commence a full investigation.

“We wish to categorically state that the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) or any other arm of the Lagos State Government did not carry out the said demolition,” Omotoso stated.

He said that Dr. Olajide Abiodun Babatunde, Special Adviser on eGIS & Urban Development who supervises LASBCA, had also confirmed the agency was not involved.

Omotoso described Obi’s claims as “disturbing and without facts,” urging the public to ignore them.

“We find it disturbing that Mr. Peter Obi would make such allegations without verifying the facts,” the statement added. “We urge the public to disregard Mr. Peter Obi’s claims and rest assured that the Lagos State Government will continue to work tirelessly to maintain law and order in our great state.”

“This investigation will help clarify the circumstances surrounding the demolition and ensure that any necessary actions are taken,” Omotoso concluded.

Obi had earlier alleged on X that his brother’s company property in Ikeja was demolished unjustly, citing a court order against a “person unknown” and claiming the invaders said they acted on a “safety order” from Lagos State.
