Lagos Government Announces Major Traffic Diversions Ahead of ECOWAS Golden Jubilee

As the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) gears up to celebrate its golden jubilee, the Lagos State Government has announced traffic diversions on key routes to accommodate the high-profile event scheduled for May 27 to 29.

According to a statement released on Monday by Bolanle Ogunlola, Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the Ministry of Transportation, the traffic advisory is designed to ensure smooth vehicular movement and bolster security around major event venues, including the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) House and Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island.

The landmark event will feature a keynote address by President Bola Tinubu, who is expected to highlight the economic milestones of the regional bloc at Eko Hotels.

To manage the expected traffic surge, motorists commuting from the Eko Hotel Roundabout to Lagos Island or the mainland are advised to use Adetokunbo Ademola Road through Civic Centre, connect to Ozumba Mbadiwe, then proceed to Bonny Camp Roundabout and turn right.

An alternative route includes the Falomo ramp near the Law School for seamless onward travel.

For those exiting Ajose Adeogun or Adetokunbo Ademola via Eko Hotel Roundabout, the advisory recommends diverting to Sanusi Fafunwa Street, then continuing to Akin Adesola. From there, a left turn at the junction leads to Ahmadu Bello Way or Adeola Odeku, while a right turn connects to Falomo Bridge or the Law School access.

Motorists departing from Lagos Continental Hotel toward Bonny Camp should take Kofo Abayomi to the Kilimanjaro Junction on Ozumba Mbadiwe, where they can either head left toward Bonny Camp or right to Lekki.

Commuters from Independence or McEwen Bridge are advised to turn left at the IMB Building on Ahmadu Bello Way by Atlantic City, link up with Akin Adesola, and proceed through inner roads to Eko Hotel.

To ease traffic and support commuters, personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be stationed along the affected routes throughout the duration of the event.
