Lagos announces traffic diversion for 10th Women Run
The Lagos State Government has announced a temporary traffic diversion across key routes on the Island on Saturday, November 8, ahead of the 10th edition of the Lagos Women Run.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the 10km marathon organized by the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) in collaboration with private partners will begin at 6:00 a.m. from Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) and finish at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.
According to Osiyemi, several major roads will be closed to vehicular movement during the event. The affected routes include TBS, Water Board, Old NITEL, Outer Marina, Officers Mess, Bonny Camp Bridge, State House, Ahmadu Bello Way, Akin Adesola Street, Falomo Bridge, Falomo Roundabout, Awolowo Road, Onikan Roundabout, and the Mobolaji Johnson Arena axis.
To ensure smooth traffic flow and safety, officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Lagos State Neighbourhood Corps (LSNC) will be on ground to direct motorists and assist participants.
Providing alternative routes, Osiyemi advised motorists leaving Ozumba Mbadiwe Road and heading towards the Third Mainland Bridge to divert through Bonny Camp to the Onikan Underpass, link the Marina Exit to Force Road, and access Outer Marina before connecting to the bridge.
Similarly, road users travelling from Apongbon towards Ikoyi are advised to pass through Odunlami Street to link Igbosere Road, then continue through Moloney Street to reach Ikoyi Road and proceed with their journey.
Osiyemi appealed for patience and cooperation from residents and motorists, noting that the diversion is temporary and necessary to ensure a successful event.
