‘Go Ahead, Expose Obi, Otti’ – LP Caretaker Chair Dares Abure Over Threats

The Labour Party (LP) leadership tussle intensified on Friday as Nenadi Usman, chairperson of the party’s caretaker committee, dared factional chairman Julius Abure to follow through on his threat to expose prominent party figures, including Peter Obi and Alex Otti.

Speaking on Sunrise Daily on Channels TV, Usman challenged Abure to stop bluffing and name names. “If you have anything to expose, just do it,” she said, asserting that Abure himself is under police investigation over several allegations.

Tensions escalated earlier in the week when Abure warned that if pushed further, he would publicly reveal secrets that could damage high-ranking party members. “When I open my mouth, they will be like rotten eggs no one will touch,” he had said.

Usman fired back, accusing Abure of clinging to power through court orders despite the expiration of his tenure. She cited a Supreme Court ruling that nullified lower court decisions recognising Abure, affirming he is no longer the LP chairman.

Quoting Justice Inyang Okoro, she added, “When your tenure ends, leave honourably.”

She emphasised that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had directed LP to conduct fresh congresses at all levels. In response, the party’s NEC formed a caretaker committee to oversee the process — a move supported by Obi, Otti, and Senator Ireti Kingibe.
