3. But a CCC official said in a statement the church has no ties with Taiwo. “All we can say is that the man is not a registered pastor in the CCC,” the official is quoted to have said.

4. Officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) rescued Korede last Friday. Church members, according to the officers, initially stopped NSCDC from entering the church. But the officers were unfazed ensuring Korede would not spend an extra day in chains. They had to force their way in.
5. The boy is now receiving treatment and would be handed over to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare this week.

8. Kehinde, Korede’s stepmother, was arrested after Taiwo fled for fear of being arrested by the police. The woman reportedly said Korede used to steal meat from her pot of soup. The 9-year-old boy was, in May, chained to a log of wood inside a building in the church premises, some church members said.
9. Pastor Taiwo has now been arrested.

10. Korede has three other siblings. They live with his mother whom Taiwo divorced in 2007.
11. Taiwo was born in Ogun State. He hails from Benin Republic. Korede’s mother is from Delta State.
12. Taiwo’s brother, Albert Hunkanyin, also runs a CCC church — Ire Akari parish in Ajibawo. He said Taiwo listens to no one.
13. According to Hunkanyin, Korede was also abused in 2013. The boy was tortured with a hot iron.
14. Pastor Taiwo and his wife may be prosecuted for child abuse.
