Keke Napep drivers protest extortion by policemen in Maiduguri
Members of the tricycle operators’ association in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, have embarked on a protest over allegations of extortion by men of the Nigeria Police Force.
The protesters, whose demonstration caused traffic jam along major roads in the Borno state capital, are demanding that the police put a stop to unnecessary extortion of their members.
A tricycle operator in Maiduguri, Umar Usman, said some policemen are fond of arresting them anytime they refuse to give them money.
He said, “A lot of our members have been complaining since and nothing was done about it because they make this extortion to look legal. Our leadership have been reporting this bad incidents to police authorities but they have not been able to make their people stop it.”
