Kano Police Arrest Wife, Associates of Wanted Terrorist Planning Attack
The Kano State Police Command has arrested the wife and two associates of Ahmad Abba, a suspected terrorist wanted for the brutal killing of 17 people in the Chad Republic.
During a press briefing on Friday, Kano State Commissioner of Police, Salman Garba, revealed that Abba, who recently fled Nigeria, had been plotting to establish a terrorist base in Kano. The three suspects taken into custody include Abba’s wife, a Chadian national identified as Jibrin Mohammed, and a Nigerian accomplice.
Authorities recovered improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from the suspects, further raising concerns about the foiled operation.
Garba emphasized that the arrests were the result of extensive intelligence gathering and proactive policing efforts. “The wanted Chadian terrorist fled Nigeria, but we have successfully apprehended three of his associates, including his wife, another Chadian named Jibrin Mohammed, 42, and a Nigerian,” he stated.
He assured the public that investigations are ongoing, with security forces intensifying intelligence efforts to track down other individuals linked to the plot.
The police commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of law enforcement agencies to safeguarding Kano, calling for greater cooperation between security forces and the local community.
“Our teams are working closely with intelligence agencies and residents to identify suspicious activities that may pose a security threat,” Garba said. “Building trust and fostering collaboration with the public is crucial in preventing and combating crime.”
This development follows a January 24 security alert issued by the Kano Police Command, warning residents of intelligence reports suggesting that terrorists were planning attacks on public gatherings in strategic locations across the state.
Security forces continue to monitor the situation, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
