Kaduna Crisis: Buhari calls for peace
President Muhammadu Buhari has called for peace in Kaduna following a communal violence in Kasuwan Magani which has led to the loss of over fifty lives.
Buhari, in a statement by his spokesperson Garba Shehu on Saturday, urged all aggrieved parties to sheathe their swords and learn to cohabit.
“No culture and religion support the disregard for the sanctity of life. Peaceful coexistence is necessary for the progress of any society and its wellbeing,” he said.
Buhari also stressed that communal harmony was necessary for progress in every society.
“Violence cannot be an alternative to peace. On the contrary, reliance on violence leads to ultimate self-destruction. Violence is an ill wind that blows nobody any good. Embracing peace is a necessity,” he added.
The president hailed the Kaduna State government for responding quickly to the crisis, and appealed to community leaders to engage in regular dialogue to address imminent crises.
