JUST IN: Abuja court strikes out FG’s suit against Jones Abiri
September 17, 2018
Jones Abiri has no case to answer, the magistrate court in Abuja has ruled.
The publisher of the Weekly Source Newspaper had been locked up for two years by the DSS without trial, until public outcry forced its hands over a month ago.
Following his eventual arraignment over allegations that he was linked to armed militancy in the Niger Delta, Abiri was granted bail by the court on August 15.
The court had ordered last week that he be paid N10 million compensation by the DSS for violating his rights.
Premium Times reports that the suit against him was struck out by the court on Monday (today). The court, the publication said, described Abiri’s detention as a criminal intimidation.
