Joseph Okonofua – In Memory Of Those Killed Illegally By The Nigerian Police
October 23, 2020
Joseph Okonofua was one of the students of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) shot dead by police during a protest in their university community on September 10, 2019.
The protest turned violent after police officers shot sporadically at protesting students trying to have a conversation with the wife of the Ekiti State governor, Bisi Fayemi, on poor electricity in the community.
While the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) claimed the police officers were security details of the Governor’s wife, the Police said no gunshots were fired at the incident despite viral video showing Police openly shooting at fleeing students.
