Internet Fraud: Police arrests impostor of Kogi State Governor
Operatives of Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad (FSARS) have arrested a 23-year-old-man, Nwafor Kenneth Obinna from Umuebo, Ezumoha in Isiala Mbano council area for allegedly impersonating the Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
The arrest was carried out by the Imo State Police Command following a petition from the office of the Kogi State Government of an internet fraudster impersonating the Governor on fake SMEs loan.
Police commissioner in the state, Dasuki Galadanchi, while parading Obinna along with 45 other suspects held for armed robbery and kidnapping on Tuesday, said he is an internet fraudster.
“The suspect was nabbed following complaints from the governor that somebody was impersonating the government and asking people to apply for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) loans,” Galadanchi said.
“He designed a website of Kogi State Governor and used it to dupe unsuspecting members of Kogi State. Investigation is ongoing”.
He further revealed that items recovered from the suspect were two phones (a Nokia and Infinix) and a laptop used in committing the offence.
