INEC reacts to PVC sale on e-commerce platform
The Nigerian Permanent Voters Card was seen on popular online shopping site Alibaba over the weekend. As a result, (INEC) says it will commence systematic hardware and software upgrade of all its smart card readers nationwide by next week.
According to Osaze-Uzzi, the director voter education and publicity, the planned upgrade is to protect the tools from unauthorised and malicious access.
He said INEC had received reports of attempts to clone its permanent voter cards (PVCs) and sell them online.
Blank PVCs are available for sale on Chinese e-commerce website, Alibaba. The supplier of the PVC is listed as Hangzhou Dingxin Technology Co Ltd.
