Drug convict, John Okoro, who broke out of jail in India in a desperate bid to escape deportation to Nigeria has been re-arrested.

35-year-old Okoro had escaped from detention James Bond-style last Monday after learning he would be deported to his fatherland following the completion of his jail term.

He was caught by the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Mumbai police, reports say.

The Times of India gathered that Okoro was arrested from the Navi Mumbai area, from where he was planning to flee to Mangalore by a private bus.

Okoro was first arrested in 2014 in a drug-related case before serving a three-year jail term. He regained his freedom on December 31 before he fled the day he was to be deported.

It is unclear if the ex-convict would be deported as earlier planned or he would be sentenced to serve another jail term.
