Imo Community in Mourning After Suspected IPOB Assault Leaves Seven Dead
At least seven people have been killed and several others critically injured following a violent attack by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Ndi-Ejezie, Umualaoma, located in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Friday, according to a statement by the state police command. The incident, described as “barbaric and inhumane”, has prompted the immediate deployment of security forces to the area.
Henry Okoye, spokesperson of the Imo police command, confirmed the development and said tactical and intelligence units have been mobilised to apprehend the attackers and restore peace.
“The senseless assault, which claimed the lives of over seven persons and left several others critically injured, was described by the CP as barbaric, inhumane, and totally unacceptable,” the statement said.
Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma, who personally led a tactical team to the affected area, expressed deep sympathy to the victims and their families.
“He expressed heartfelt sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives, CP Aboki Danjuma prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased and a speedy recovery for the injured,” the statement added.
“The CP has led tactical unit for intense combing of the affected areas and affirmed that the situation is now under control, and proactive security measures have been taken to forestall further attacks and restore lasting peace in the region.”
The police urged residents to remain calm and report any suspicious activity to the nearest station.
