The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has ordered the withdrawal of all police officers attached to Very Important Persons, including political and public office holders nationwide citing the security challenges facing the nation.

The Nigeria Police Force is said to have a staff strength of about 371,800 officers with about 150,000 of them attached to Very Important Persons, including political and public office holders nationwide.

Idris, who announced this in Abuja during a conference with senior officers, stated that the directive also affected private businessmen, multi-national companies and other corporate organizations who are enjoying special police protection.
