“I take responsibility”- Odion Ighalo on Nigeria’s World Cup exit
June 27, 2018
Many Nigerians have been on Super Eagles forward Odion Ighalo’s wife’s Instagram bombarding her with hurtful comments for the loss Nigeria suffered at the hands of Argentina on Tuesday during their last group match at the 2018 World Cup.
The country was dumped out of the competition as a result of the 2-1 defeat to Lionel Messi’s team.
Ighalo, who missed gilt-edged chances, accepted responsibility for the defeat, saying “I take responsibility for this game because if I had taken those chances I had, that would have made it a different ball game now.
“I missed a couple of chances that would have finished the game but that’s football because sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.”
Since the defeat, many Nigerians have directed harsh criticisms at the former Watford striker, and his teammate, Kelechi Iheanacho.
Ighalo, 29, plays as a striker for Chinese club Changchun Yatai.
