Abisoye Taiwo: Allegedly shot by a police officer.

The shooting of a student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB, was not an accident, an eyewitness has told NewsroomNG.

Policemen reportedly shot Abisoye Taiwo in the head while they were trying to control a protest by students of the university.

The students were aggrieved by a robbery cum rape attack on some of their colleagues who stayed off campus.

“It was not an accident,” the witness, a post-graduate student of the university, told NewsroomNG.

“The policeman shot the student in the head in a bid to stop them from protesting.

“The shot was not directed upward, so it wasn’t an accident.

“It was after the shooting that the students started stoning the policemen who eventually took to their heels.

“The students, angry by then, forcefully took control of a filling station close to the school gate where they helped themselves to petrol.

“I overhead them saying they were going to the police station at Osiele to burn it down.

“I had never seen FUNAAB students that angry in all of my years of being around the university community,” she added.

Early reports said Taiwo had passed on, but reports reaching us at the moment say he is receiving treatment at the University College Hospital in Ibadan.

The police are yet to make a statement on the development. We are working on reaching them..
