“I don’t have up to N20 million” – El-Rufai

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai picked up his nomination form on Monday.

The N22.5m form was said to have been paid for by some groups, among which were the Association of Cattle Sellers, Sheikh Gumi Market Association, and the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria.

El-Rufai, whose annual salary is about N22 million, said he could only have sold his house to be able to buy the form, as he doesn’t have up to N20 million in his bank account.

“When the party fixed the money for the form, I could remember that during the meeting, the President was the first person to raise his hands and said he does not have N50m. Infact, we the governors started discussing on how we will raise the money for Mr President,” he said, as he picked up the form.

“We said each governor will contribute N2 million each and we travelled to China and it was in China I told the president that some group have purchased the form for you. So who will buy my own for me?

“I don’t have N20 million also to buy my form. The money I have in the bank is not close to that amount. I have only one account in GT. Except I sell my house will I be able to raise that amount.”

So far, a number of politicians, including President Buhari, have claimed that their “supporters” willingly paid for their forms.
