Husbands needed! Over 10,000 women register for mass wedding in Kano
The Hizba board in Kano has received statements of intent from over 10,000 women who would like to get married at its mass wedding ceremony.
The board which is the main Islamic authority in Kano arranges the ceremony to help reduce the number of the single women in the state.
The women who have registered their interest will be introduced to possible husbands and left to make their decision.
Some of the women registered with the Hizba because they couldn’t find a suitable partner on their own while others just can’t afford to finance a wedding by themselves.
Mr Sufi, a senior Hizba member, said he expected the number of women seeking to marry to rise by the time the next ceremony takes place.
A date is yet to be set for the wedding.
A total of 5,000 men and women have been married since mass weddings were introduced in Kano in 2012..
