How Daystar is altering its mode of service over COVID-19

As states in Nigeria and the federal government continue to announce measures to encourage social distancing which has been identified as one of the best ways to contain the spread of novel coronavirus, Daystar Christian Center with its headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos has announced that it is altering its mode of service in compliance with government’s directives.

In Lagos, where the first and nine new more cases of the virus have been confirmed, the state government has proscribed gatherings of more than 50 people until further notice and Daystar founded by Pastor Sam Adeyemi has said it is going fully virtual in its service.

Before the pandemic, the church runs four services at its headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos every Sunday – 7am, 8.45am, 10.30am, 12.15pm and livestreams the services on its digital platforms. Each of the four services always attract thousands of congregants who overflow from the auditorium to other viewing facilities around the headquarters.

With the spread of COVID-19 and the ban on large gatherings, the church said in a statement by its Senior Pastor Sam Adeyemi on Thursday that “from the 21st of March, 2020, the church will not hold physical gathering for worshippers in the following branches Oregun, Lekki, Ikorodu and Badagry till further notice”.
