How At Least 10 Nigerian Teenage Girls Were Rescued From Prostitution In Ghana

At least 10 Nigerian teenage girls, aged between 15 and 16, have been rescued from forced prostitution in Ghana. The girls were lured to Ghana with promises of a better life but were instead subjected to physical and sexual abuse, forced into prostitution, and had their phones seized to prevent them from contacting their parents.

According to Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, the tip-off for the rescue of the girls was made by Chief Callistus Elozieuwa, Chairman of NIDO, the umbrella body of Nigerians living in Ghana.

Sharing a video of the first set of girls rescued on Saturday, June 7, Dabiri-Erewa said, “These are young girls trafficked to Ghana for prostitution.”

Another set of girls was rescued shortly afterwards, thanks to Callistus’s tip-off.

While Dabiri-Erewa said that the evil perpetrator has been arrested and will be charged next week, she emphasized that the traffickers need to be named and shamed.

“Honestly, the traffickers need to be named and shamed! They are worse than drug barons, and as long as they walk around freely, innocent young children will continue to be trafficked,” she said.
