House of Reps approve N30,000 minimum wage
January 29, 2019
The Federal House of Representatives have adopted a motion that approves N30,000 as the new national minimum wage after the bill passed a third reading at the chamber on Tuesday (today).
The New Minimum Wage Bill presented to the National Assembly by President Buhari on Thursday last week was reviewed by the ad hoc committee set up by the House of Reps to deliberate on the outcome of the bill.
The president had sought for the approval of N27,000 in the bill against the N30,000 that was requested by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and agreed upon by major stakeholders.
After resolutions from the recommendations made by the committee, N30,000 was adopted as the consensus minimum wage.
