Gunmen Kill Four Youths, Injure Five in Plateau Mining Site Attack
Four young men were shot dead, and five others injured in a violent attack by gunmen in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. The victims were ambushed around 9 p.m. on Friday while working at a mining site in the Butura community.
Confirming the incident, Sabastine Magit, President of the Butura Youth Movement, described it as an “unprovoked assault” on the community.
“The attackers, who spoke the Fulani dialect, stormed the mining site near Kuba and Maikatako villages,” Magit said in a statement on Saturday. “They opened fire without warning, killing four of our youths instantly and injuring five others.”
The youth leader identified the deceased as Bwefuk Musa (21), Klingshak Dickson (21), Promise Joshua (20), and Nyam Abaka (20).
“This attack comes only days after the gruesome killing of five members of a family, including a pregnant woman, in Wumat village,” Magit lamented.
The statement highlighted that Friday’s incident is the latest in a spate of attacks on the Butura community, with over 20 lives lost in similar assaults over the past month alone.
Witnesses reported that the gunmen fled the scene before security forces could respond, despite the presence of a nearby military checkpoint.
The community has appealed for increased security, expressing frustration over the repeated loss of innocent lives.
“Enough is enough,” Magit concluded. “We call on the authorities to put an end to this senseless violence.”
