Gunmen gang rape married woman in husband’s presence in Cross River
The Cross River police has rearrested five men for gang raping a young married woman in her husband’s presence.
The lady was gang-raped when some hoodlums stormed a farm in Okuni Ikom on November 6, 2017, stealing bags of cocoa.
The suspects allegedly raped the lady, a wife of one of the farmers, while the husband was tied to a tree and made to watch.
They were arrested, but one of them was said to have been released on bail without adequate sanction by the police.
The suspect’s release led to a protest by women from Okuni community, who demanded justice.
The Attorney General of Cross River State has now been directed to immediately prosecute the suspects.
The Commissioner for Health Cross River State, Dr Inyang Asibong and Director General of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Betta Edu last Wednesday at Ikom consoled with the family of the gang rape victim and assured her that though justice has been delayed but the perpetrators will face the full wrath of law.
Asibong faulted the police for releasing the culprits, adding that they would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
