Gunmen assasinate APC ward chairman in Imo
The All Progressive Congress ward chairman of Logara/Umuohiagu ward in Ngor Okpala council area of Imo state has been assassinated by unknown gunmen in the presence of his family at his residence.
Ifeanyi Ozoemena is said to have been shot severally by gunmen who arrived in an SUV and demanded to see him after he presided over a ward meeting on Tuesday night.
Speaking on the issue, one of the community leaders, Chief Martin Opara said that such occurrence was rare among them and has thrown the entire community into shock and fear as the general election approaches.
“Logara community is known for peace and we won’t jeopardise peace among us,” he said.
“This killing is strange to our community. Witnesses say that he was shot severally in his house until he died,” the community leader said. “We have met with the Eze-in-council and have sent a delegation to the DPO requesting that the killers should be arrested immediately.”
The police on the other hand said it is aware of the incident and have evacuated the body of the deceased.
