Groom says wedding vows hours after getting shot in India
An Indian groom wouldn’t be prevented from getting married to his bride as he returned to say his vows hours after he was shot.
The groom was riding in a carriage to the ceremony on Wednesday when two gunmen who had found a way to mingle with the wedding guests opened fire.
AFP reports that the 25-year-old groom was struck in the shoulder, causing panic as the gunmen fled.
Doctors could not immediately remove the bullet but managed to stop the bleeding, stating that a major surgery would be needed to get it out. The heavily bandaged groom, however, returned to the ceremony about three hours after to say his vows.
“The bullet is stuck between the shoulder bones,” Vijay Kumar, a deputy commissioner of police in Delhi, told AFP.
Police are searching for the two suspects, who have not been found. Police say the attack, which is not the first of its kind at an Indian wedding, did not appear to be a random act of violence.
A similar incident led to the death of a groom in northern Uttar Pradesh state in April.
